Friends of the Earth member groups and colleague organizations called on Bank of China to withdraw from the Batang Toru project in Indonesia, which if built, would doom the Tapanuli orangutan to extinction and impoverish local communities. In countries with no Bank of China local Bank of China branch, activists sent or delivered letters to the Chinese Embassy. Protests occurred in: London, New York City, Hong Kong, Accra, Madrid, Maputo, Nairobi, Manila, Brussels, Johannesburg, Seoul, Stockholm and Lomé.
